She Doubled Her June: How Mary Transformed Her Practice in 6 Months
When Mary joined Health Leader Mastery, she'd been a remedial massage therapist for eight years. She ran her own solo clinic, Balance Body Massage Therapy, in Bowral in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, and she was genuinely good at her craft, with plenty of loyal clients to show for it.
But the business side felt like constantly chasing her tail.
She was charging $110 a session, and even that gave her massive anxiety. She'd only recently nudged it up from $100 and worried she was "killing her clients" with the increase. She was sitting on what we call the "good enough line", managing, paying the bills, but not really getting anywhere. Working six days a week and starting to burn out.
Six months later, her business looks completely different.
Doubling her income (in the quietest month of the year)
Mary recently had the biggest month she's ever had. Comparing June this year to June last year, she'd doubled her income. A 100% increase.
And here's the kicker: June is traditionally one of the quietest months of the year for massage, right in the middle of winter and around the end of the financial year. She did it in her slowest season, and she did it while working fewer days, not more.
Raising her prices
One of Mary's biggest breakthroughs was pricing. She raised her rates to $130 for a session and introduced a $150 initial appointment, something she'd never done before.
She was terrified. She was convinced she'd lose clients, and genuinely panicked that no one would book at $150.
What actually happened? Out of all her clients, exactly one left. Everyone else barely blinked. And the week after she set that "scary" $150 initial rate, three new clients booked in online.
As she put it, all that time and energy stressing over it, and the reality was almost underwhelming.
A whole new arm to her business
Alongside her massage practice, Mary has launched a personal training business, and she's built it with real intention.
Her focus is women who feel intimidated by traditional gyms. So she created a space that feels the opposite: pink weights, a big flamingo mural, a neon "let's go girls" sign, and deliberately no mirrors. It's welcoming, feminine and beautiful to be in, not just functional.
People told her it was too niche. She backed herself anyway, and she's now running five women's group sessions that are almost all full, many of them former massage clients, plus referrals from local dietitians and physios.
What actually made the difference
When we asked Mary what drove these results, she didn't lead with tactics. She led with mindset.
"I can't undersell the mindset work. To me that's been the biggest thing. Knowing you're worth it, knowing you're allowed to have boundaries."
That included giving herself two full days off every week, after years of working six days trying to keep everyone happy. She managed to double her profit while working less, not more.
The rest came from getting clear on where to focus, learning to back herself, and having a community of coaches and peers who genuinely understand the industry and want to see her succeed.

Mary's story isn't unusual. Almost every therapist who walks this path starts out exactly where she did: skilled at their craft, but stuck spinning their wheels, undercharging, and trying to figure it all out alone. The difference is having a map to follow and the right people beside you.
When we asked Mary what she'd say to someone on the fence, she didn't hesitate: "You have to pay money to be in the program, but I just doubled my June. So it's worthwhile."
